RACE REPORTS:
Race #2 & #3:
Sauble Speedway
May 17 & 18, 2008
Day 1:
After coming out of
the box with great results at Flamboro the previous week, the
#39 team arrived at Sauble Speedway with high expectations.
Unfortunately, things didn't quite go as well as planned.
The team struggled all day to tune the car to get through the
corners better. The team also thinks the secondary engine
may be lacking in horsepower.
Corey managed to
pull off a 13th place finish in the feature, which he was not
happy with. At least the car was still in one piece, so
the team wasn't entirely disappointed.
Day 2:
With such a poor
showing in the previous days race event, the #39 team came into
this event with the "down to the basics" attitude. A night
around the campfire with many of the Can-Am Midget competitors
brought forth much knowledge about the midget race cars to the
#39 team.
The team made many
changes to the chassis prior to the first practice, but the
changes didn't seem to help the car handle through the corners.
A few more changes were made before the heat race, but again,
nothing seemed to get rid of the awful push through the center
of the corners.
The Heat race and B
Feature race went just as well as the previous days; not very
well. Before the feature race, the team made many more
changes to the car, but again, nothing seemed to make it better.
Corey drove the #39 car to a 11th place finish, which was again
disappointing to the rookie driver.
Corey and his team
would like to thank Rob Neely, Dennis Bois, and the McLennans
for all of their help this weekend.
Preparation for the
race this weekend at Peterborough Speedway has already begun.
The 39 team has not raced at Peterborough Speedway since their
days in the 9hp Junior Late Model, so Corey may have to take
some time to relearn the 3/8 mile bullring.
Race #1:
Flamboro Speedway
May 10, 2008
It was a tough start
for the #39 team, in their inaugural race in the Can-Am Midget
Racing Club, as well as their inaugural race at Flamboro
Speedway. A slight leak in the fuel cell was found after
the practice sessions were over. The decision was made by
crew chief Mark Moesker and driver Corey Moesker, that it was
unsafe to race in it's condition. The #09 team of Patrick
and Caleb Wood, offered the use of the fuel cell in their spare
car. With the help of the Woods Racing Team and Rob Neely,
the Corey Moesker Racing Team crew scrambled to remove and
reinstall the fuel cell into their car.
The fuel cell was
all buttoned up and ready for the heat race, but the car hardly
made one pace lap, then died out, causing the 39 car to miss out
on the heat race. The fuel pick-up hose was found to be
kinked in the fuel cell. This was quickly resolved, but
the end of the hose was located in the left side of the tank.
This became problematic in the consolation race, as the car
would go like crazy down the straight-aways, but would die in
the corners. This was another race thrown away. The
team moved the fuel hose to the right side of the fuel cell, and
made sure that it wasn't going to move.
With such poor
results in the heat and consolation races, the #39 car was to
start in 18th place, of 18 cars. The car worked great.
Corey moved up 5 positions before the first caution flew on lap
#2. After the restart, the fuel pickup problems were
starting to occur yet again. Corey lost all the positions
he had gained, but somehow the problem fixed itself after a few
more caution laps. Corey weaved his way up to the fifth
position late in the race, but then noticed the engine wasn't
running right. He then babied the car to a 6th place
finish. The team was extremely satisfied with the results,
and hope to improve on the race program for the next race.
After a quick check
into the engine following the race, it is believed that the
engine had dropped a valve from running too lean with the fuel
pickup problems, and therefore was only running on 3 cylinders
in the final 4 laps of the race. The team will gear up the
secondary engine for Sauble Speedway this weekend, and will look
further into the primary engine to see how much damage was done.
The team would like
to extend their sincere thanks to the #09 team of Patrick and
Caleb Wood, as well as the #74 driver Rob Neely for all their
help this past weekend!
We've been very impressed with the courtesy of the officials and
competitors in the Can-Am Midget Club so far.
The team will be
hard at it in preparation for this weekend's events at Sauble
Speedway. This 1/4 Mile oval located in Sauble Beach, ON,
offers some very exciting racing. The track is more
familiar to the team, as they've had various races there in the
past 4 years.
